US Groups Launch Wealth Education Programme

To help high net worth families manage their wealth more effectively, US-based investment firm,The Haverford Trust Company, and TheInstitute for Private Investors, an education and networking organisation, have developed a seminar programme to educate children of HNW families. Called “Next Generation”, the programme is designed to engage and educate the children of high net worth families, primarily between 20 and 40 years of age, in preparation for a future of successful wealth management, the organisations said. Joseph McLaughlin, chairman and chief executive of Haverford, said, “We’ve recognised a growing need among our clients and other high net worth families to prepare their next generation, often in their 20’s, 30’s, or 40’s, for the responsibility and task of managing family wealth. In particular, families are looking for how to prepare for a large inheritance or substantial family investments and how to be prudent custodians of wealth, while best benefiting both the family and community. Next Generation, our collaboration with the IPI, is an objective programme that truly educates the next generation about wealth management, and safeguards the hard work and legacy that familial wealth represents.” The objective of the Next Generation program is to increase knowledge and awareness of financial responsibilities for the children of families with investable assets of at least $1 million. Haverford and the IPI said they recognised a growing need among this group for family-oriented investment education. Past topics presented by the IPI have included wealth management education for the 20-40 age bracket, which generated high interest and opened the door for future educational opportunities. Due to the popularity and growing interest in this topic, Haverford plans to offer the same programme for new attendees, as well as design content for subsequent programmes for returning attendees. The next round of seminars is planned for the autumn of 2008, and Haverford welcomes any interested individuals whose investment and wealth management needs meet the educational offerings of the programme.
